Votive Candles

Votive candles are commonly known as 'prayer candles'. In ancient days, votive candles were offered as votive offering in all religious ceremonies. Votive offering is a object left in sacred place for ritual purposes. In ancient days, such offers were made to gain supernatural powers. Votive candles were small, unscented and whitish in color, in earlier days. These candles were often seen in churches, placed in a glass holder.

Nowadays, one finds votive candles in various colors and not only in those typical white colors. They also are available in both types, scented and unscented. Votive candles can burn for around 5-8 hours. These candles are made from paraffin or wax. Many times paraffin is mixed with other waxes, for example beeswax, which helps to obtain rigidity. These candles can burn fast or slow, depending on the wax quality.

These candles are a safer option as compared to other candles, since they don't get knocked off. But one needs to take care while handling the glass holder in which this candle burns, as there is a possibility of the glass getting hotter, and one can sustain burns.

The scented votive candles are nowadays a big hit, as they not only add a nice glow but also a pleasant aroma to a place.

These candles are easily available everywhere, like grocery stores or supermarkets. One can also buy them online.
