Diwali Festival 2011 is what everyone is looking forward to! Diwali Festival 2011 this year too starts as usual in Ashwin Month, as per the Hindu Calendar and would end up in the earliest Karthik month like always. This year the five day Festival of Diwali is starting on the 24th October 2011. Lets learn the detailed schedule Diwali Festival 2011:
Dhantrayodashi 2011
Dhantrayodashi or Dhantreyas as it is popularly known is the first day of Diwali 2011 and falls on 24th October 2011. Dhatrayodashi is the day when we welcome Diwali 2011. The day starts pretty early as we draw rangoli around the house entrance, fill colors in it, lit lanterns, diyas and get ready to wish family and friends with lots of smses, greeting cards, phone calls and tweets! Dhanteras is considered to be highly auspicious day and hence many of us buy gold and other ornaments this day. Everyone is seen dressed up in traditional outfits and known to distribute sweets within their neighborhood and relatives.
Narak Chaturdarshi 2011
Narak Chaturdarshi is the second day of Diwali 2011 and this year falls on 26th October 2011. Legendary tale associated with this day tells us the significance of this day as, today is the day when Naraksura (one fo the demons) was killed by Lord Krishna. On Narak Chaturdarshi everyone in the family get up pretty early. Women draw rangolis, lit diyas and prepare Sugandhi Utne (aromatic paste prepared from sandalwood and other aromatic oils, especially for the festival) for the Abhyanga Snan (ceremonial baths). Families dress up in new clothes, lit crackers and enjoy the Diwali sweets together. Enjoying Diwali sweets this day is really fun, as people come together for an elaborate meal which other wise is something nobody would imagine of. Various sweets like besan laddoos, anaarse, chakali, kanoles, chivda and various other farsaan items with many sweets.
Laxmipujan 2011
Laxmipujan 2011 falls on the same day as Narak Chaturdarshi, i.e. Ashwin Amavasya on 26th October 2011. Goddess Laxmi is worshiped on this day along with cheque books, cash, gold ornaments, property papers. People make it a point to stay at home in the evening for this pooja, which is elaborate and looks beautiful.
Deepawali 2011 / Padwaa 2011
Deepawali 2011 falls on 27th October 2011, which is a Thursday. The significance of this day as per the legendary tales is the Victory of Lord Vishnu over Demon king Bali.
Padwaa 2011 falls this year on 27th October 2011. This day holds a great significance for every Hindu as this day is a special day for married couples. To strengthen the bonding between the couples the Hindu wives do aukshan to their husbands, who gift their wives with either ornaments or other gifts.
Bhaubeej 2011
This year Bhaubeej 2011 falls on 28th October 2011. Bhaubeej is celebrated by brothers and sisters, where a brother visits his sister's house with gifts and sweets. The sister aukshans the brother and also gifts him. In return the brother too gives his sister gifts and sweets.
